Shihan, originally from China and Daniel, originally from Hawaii met in the perfect NYC way, crossing a street heading to the same party. It was only fitting that they chose to take their relationship to the next level at a classic NYC venue.
The words “Plaza Hotel” and “wedding” go hand in hand when thinking of a setting for an elegant, timeless and romantic celebration in New York. We had the pleasure of working with Shihan & Daniel to plan their dream wedding at the infamous Plaza Hotel creating exactly that setting last October.
From helping select a band to picking out the invitations to establishing the design and look of the wedding to attending dress fittings at Vera Wang (yes, it’s as exciting as it sounds!), we worked hand in hand with Shihan through every step of the process seeing her vision become a reality.
We asked Shihan to think back on the planning process and wedding day and share a few insights:
1. WHAT WERE YOU MOST EXCITED FOR ON THE WEDDING DAY?
Everything--- to be married to the love of my life means everything to me. It has been a princess dream since I was a little girl. Every day getting ready for our big day was filled with love and happiness. I simply didn’t want wedding planning to end, at the same time, I couldn’t wait to spend the rest of our lives together. I was excited to become his wife, to unite two families, to see all our closest friends and family, to wear the most beautiful wedding dress, and to experience the pure joy and happiness of getting married at one of the world's most beautiful venues. I am excited to promise each other a lifetime. It will always be the best day of my life, and words cannot express how excited I was!
2. DID YOU LEARN ANYTHING ABOUT YOURSELVES OR EACH OTHER THROUGHOUT THE PLANNING PROCESS?
One thing I learned about myself is that I LOVE wedding planning. I don't mind having to spend three hours everyday thinking about details and planning. I enjoyed every minute of it! Thanks to my wedding planner Daniela (she's the best), I found the whole process so rewarding and exciting! You will only do this (hopefully) once in a lifetime, how can you not treasure and take advantage of this opportunity to celebrate the love? One thing I learned about my husband (fiance back then) was he is not a big fan of wedding planning but it worked out perfectly! He trusted and supported all my decisions and it turned out great!
3. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING AND FEELING WHEN YOU SAW EACH OTHER FOR THE FIRST TIME ON YOUR WEDDING DAY?
I felt like everything stopped. No sound, no sense of time, just heartbeat. We will see each other in a way we have never seen before. It is such a precious and sacred moment that we will treasure for a lifetime. Excitement, happiness, gratitude- my heart was filled with best feelings of myself and of each other.
4. HOW DID IT FEEL TO WALK AROUND NEW YORK AS BRIDE AND GROOM?
It was amazing! Part of the reason was...around the Plaza, we had crowds. People who didn’t know us would say "congratulations" to us. It was beautiful! It was beyond words! I felt so special as the bride in the center NYC. I was thinking to myself that I am the luckiest and happiest girl in the entire world.
5. WHAT MOMENTS FROM YOUR WEDDING DAY HAD THE MOST MEANING OR SIGNIFICANCE TO YOU?
Well, hard question. I would say every single moment. From showering in the morning, getting ready for 5 hours, taking thousands and thousands of pictures, getting in the dress, spending time with our parents, walking around NYC with our bridal party, taking family photos, the rehearsal dinner... to walking down the aisle with my father, and to our exchange of vows, our first dance, dancing with our great band, having the most gorgeous cake and beautiful beautiful wedding- it was just perfect in every way. We also watched our same day edit video and it was simply beyond words. Only thing we did not do enough of was to eat. I remembered when it hit midnight, the majority of our guests were still there with us. We went to the Rose bar for the after party, and we really just wanted to get 99 cent pizza at 3am as husband and wife!
